What are the dates and is this rain or shine for The Surf Thing?
The Surf Thing starts June 7th and concludes on Sunday, June 12th rain or shine or fog or drizzle or snow. That’d be wild if it snows. A schedule of all events can be found here.
Is there an age limit?
21+, Sally. If you have any questions or needs for children please feel free to drop us a line firstname.lastname@example.org.
Who should attend The Surf Thing?
Anyone who has an appreciation for the ocean and community. It helps if that person likes good music, interesting Q&A panels, fun golf outings, daily beach activities, worthwhile surf movies, quality giveback programs to the town of Montauk, meeting new and seeing old friends, and anyone curious about ways to better help the surf community.
Who are the organizations benefiting from The Surf Thing?
Honored to be able to support the following with a portion of proceeds from The Surf Thing:
What should I bring to Montauk?
A good respectful attitude and $10 bucks to visit The Lighthouse. The Whalebone crew would also recommend visiting local shops and restaurants while you can in the area. Be sure to check out the weather in advance as early June can sometimes bring a fluctuation in temperatures throughout the day. The Surfrider Gala will be fancy so bring something nice.
The Surf Thing is in Montauk, New York. I’ve never been. Is there a best way to get out there?
There are lots of ways to get to Montauk. Here are a few we might recommend.
Who are these special musical guests?
It’s not U2. We have nothing against Bono and his bandmates personally but they’re not who we would have played The Surf Thing this year. All musical guests are subject to change but we’re curating several of our friends who we enjoy and think you will as well. Due to capacity at venues and with respect to our musical guests we will not be sharing names.
What is the best way to get around Montauk?
Uber or local taxi company or The Free Ride or walking or bikes. Montauk is fairly spaced out so be prepared to line up rides to-and-from activities as needed.
What about beach pass parking?
The Surf Thing and Whalebone crew recommend you follow all local guidelines for parking at the beach and in town. Resident and beach pass parking is required at many beaches. Be sure to check out the signs in advance. Riding a bike, Uber, or drop-off and pick-up from a friend are popular to avoid tickets and unnecessary headaches for all.
Do you have any recommendations on where to stay if I did not purchase a ticket with accommodation?
Here are a few of our recommendations and we’d also recommend booking as soon as you can.
Will there be any COVID guidelines in place and are there any requirements for entry?
We will follow all state and CDC guidelines throughout the duration of the week.
