Woman in Minnesota

Waqar Ahmad

Human – Honorable Mention

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota

I was out on the streets of Minneapolis capturing photos for 24-hours straight on a personal project—taking one photo every hour for one day. Typically mid-day under the harsh sun is not the best time to photograph outdoors, but I found this black and white mural wall in the Cedar-Riverside section of Minneapolis, and camped myself around, and waited for an interesting subject to walk by. When I saw this woman approaching I knew I had the shot.

The Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis is home to the largest Somali migrant community in the US, and I was proud to capture this image to reflect a tiny glimpse of that community.
