Elemental Immersion

Mike Borchard

Film – Finalist

Location: Oahu, Hawaii

This image was shot with a Nikonos waterproof camera from the 1980s on Kodak Gold film stock. Using in-camera techniques, the film was first exposed to a group of palm fronds, and then later exposed again to surfer Hannah Sheldon gliding across a wave on the south shore of Oahu. The result is a visual representation of the connection between land and sea, and the joy that comes from immersing oneself in these elements.
