A Migrant Worker Named Chicago, 1995

Walter Coker

Film – Honorable Mention

Location: Hastings, Florida

I gained access to a farm labor camp in Hastings, Florida, while working on a story regarding the exploitation and deplorable living conditions of the migrant workers in the area. That’s where I met “Chicago,” and when I asked if I could take his portrait, he nodded and looked directly into my lens, and I felt like I could see his soul coming through my viewfinder. Shot on T-Max 400, with a Nikkor 105mm f2.5 lens, mounted on a Nikon F3 body.
